Krista Bennett

Krista Bennett is a visual artist and an art historian. Her primary research interests include the inception of Western, female beauty standards, the ways in which these standards have been propagated using artistic media, and the visual representation of women as a product of male projection and fantasy. The theories of structuralism and feminism are gateways through which she further investigates these topics. A woman and a critical researcher of female representations, Krista has a natural affinity for depicting women. Her artwork reflects a preoccupation with the experience of being gazed upon. Capturing her subjects’ expressions and moods is of the utmost importance to her. Thus, a strong sense of interiority and emotionality is ever-present in her pieces. Whether stoic, contemplative, or emotionally charged, her subjects are naturalistically articulated and set against shallow, abstract backgrounds. Krista identifies, first and foremost, as a painter. She uses both oil paint and acrylic paint on wooden panels and stretched canvases. She also works in other mediums such as digital photography.
