Sonia Soto is a figurative artist who works in multimedia. She seeks to strike a balance between traditional subject matter and the contemporary. She works from life, memory, and pictures as she captures the essence of her subjects. This current body of work is introspective. Working primarily with oil on canvas, she employs a combination of different size brushes, knives, tape, and rags to engage in the process of painting. Process and experimentation being at the center of her work. Her ceramic busts are approached intuitively and are entirely a concoction of the various individuals she studies during one of her favorite pastimes, crowd watching.
